Abstract

Speaking ethics constitute one of the essential dimensions of character education in Islamic educational institutions. The ability of students to communicate politely with teachers reflects not only linguistic competence but also the internalization of Islamic moral values. This study aims to analyze the implementation of students' speaking ethics toward teachers and identify factors influencing its implementation at SDI Perwanida Nurul Fajar Citayam, Bojonggede, Bogor. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation involving teachers and fourth-grade students. The collected data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that students' speaking ethics have generally been implemented through habituation, teacher role modeling, and school regulations. However, several students still demonstrate impolite language, inappropriate intonation, and inadequate manners when interacting with teachers. These behaviors are influenced by family environment, peer interaction, technological development, and students' awareness of Islamic values. This study contributes to strengthening character education, particularly in developing students' speaking ethics based on Islamic teachings within elementary school settings.
